Brigid escapes to  find love and purpose in  Dublin's  Fenian movement.  Her marriage to one of its leaders takes her on a journey of discovery until he succumbs to a terrifying sickness.

Brigid marries again to another leader with violent associates, The British Military wants to capture him so he flees to Boston, America. Brigid and her children follow. Brigid is drawn to the ship's captain. In Boston the family flourished until Brigid's husband is assassinated on a Fenian mission. 

Brigis rebuilds her life through hard work, philanthropy and her children, whose futures she guards like a lioness guards her cubs. Saying goodbye to her daughter, who sails for Italy, she watches another ship dock. The captain is John from her emigration ship. They marry in a whirlwind romance.
